We are not contained in a one-dimensional world with one-dimensional answers. Because of this we like to look at design challenges from multiple perspectives. Sometimes our projects lead with form: sometimes they lead with function. We consider what the user will experience and how our work fits into the larger context of a sustainable community, a viable economy, and a healthy environment.
Our philosophy page shows how Deborah Davis Design, Inc. takes a fresh, multi-angled look at some of today’s persistent challenges. At the core of each facet of our philosophy is a commitment to great design and a process that cross-pollinates our diverse and unique talents. Each enriches the story of how our expertise responds to a host of challenges with design solutions that have re-defined our client’s interiors and re-shaped the world in which we live. |

ON INTERIOR DESIGN FOR RESIDENTIAL INTERIORS
Your home can be art in living. It’s your chance to have your personality reflected in your surroundings whether its in the private spaces that only you enjoy or the living areas where you entertain your guests. Pulling together all the elements of design while understanding the physical and budget constraints is where Davis Design can help. We have been practicing the marriage of resources and conception with the ultimate goal of materializing interiors beyond the initial vision of the client for almost 2 decades.

ON OFFICE SPACE PLANNING AND PRODUCTIVITY
A study by DEGW was done that shows traditional office space allocation normally appoints only %10 to conference rooms. Additionally, the explosion of e-mail use has created an epidemic of ineffectiveness in the US workplace. In contrast, workers complain that most of the “real work” is done in a face to face setting, yet so much of our office footage and operating expense is spent on quarantining workers to their own offices and cubicles. The “ability to meet on short notice” in face to face settings was rated as one of the most important aspects of the workplace and yet one of the most poorly supported with corporate facility space. We should consider how our office teams are most effective and provide them with spaces that encourage productivity and satisfaction.

ON PROJECT MANAGEMENT
With any new project, Davis Design is committed to educating clients on the importance of planning and programming. The initial phases of the design process, programming, are usually undervalued by most new clients only for them to find themselves in the middle of an installation which reveals itself as a diversion from the best intentions.

ON GREEN DESIGN
The popularized statistic by Ray Anderson summarizes it well - if the world’s population started to live with the same consumption rate as those in the US, it would take 4 Earths to sustain that consumption. Although we have not really felt the impact of our consumerism habits, I believe in the next decade we will. Everyone has a different level of consideration for this issue and whether your comfort zone falls in minimizing expense in renewable demolition practices, using lasting and renewable finishes, or in whole green design considerations for your new construction or remodeling projects, there is something you can contribute to this important movement. Our design team would be happy to discuss your participation options and the cost benefits associated with these decisions.
We are at a crossroads where sustainable design no longer needs to cost more, it is just a different set of considerations that, in the initial design phase, can and will save expenses with varying timelines of amortization.

ON ERGONOMICS
In her work with E! Entertainment she became instrumental in designing and coordinating additional post-production edit facilities for the growing company and became increasingly exposed to the ergonomic impact of these specialized workspaces. It prompted her to get CEAS certification in Ergonomics and she went on to provide office ergonomic assessments for almost one hundred offices, edit facilities, and medical workspaces at production companies on the Universal Studios Lot, and Cedar Sinai Medical Center, and E! Entertainment. Her commitment to matching the worker to their workspace is in perfect alignment with her life work of fitting the client to their interior spaces. |
